Laser PRK and LASIK Surgery
Is laser or lasik surgery is an alternative for you? This is a decision that requires careful consideration.
It is important to ask yourself and your eye doctor the following questions: Why am I interested in the surgery? What can I expect? How permanent are the results? What problems can arise? How repairable are they? How much does the procedure cost? Who does Optometry@eyecareeyewear.com recommend? Why? What are my responsibilities? Who Cares for me after the surgery?
Your Interest is Valid If: You are interested in surgery because of convenience,( you are in the majority.) You can't find comfortable contact lenses You have an optical correction for distance that is moderately high
Remember, this is surgery!
Expectations: Be realistic in your expectations. Many people come out of surgery with "20 happy" vision. A good percentage achieve 20/30 or better. About 70% can expect 20/20 or better
Permanence Nothing is. We are biological beings and we all change with age You can expect a 5-15 year window of correction free vision depending on your age People over 40 will require reading correction
Problems and Complications: Complications can be small to large and occur in about 4% of all types of surgery You can develop dry eyes You can have hazing and glare at night You can have distorted vision You can develop problems more serious It is best to discuss this with the surgeon of choice
Cost: If money is a concern, you do not want surgery. Surgery is not a commodity that you would purchase like shoes. We choose our surgeons based on expertise, not how many they have done Our surgeons use the state of the art equipment and technique We have chosen our surgeons as if we were having the surgery
Your Responsibility: Get informed Make your decision carefully, not emotionally
